FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE

Each year students and staff at Wider Horizons School put on FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE. The program takes place at a local community theater and has become known in the community as an evening of fun for everyone.

Every student in the school appears on stage during the program. The younger classes perform group songs, skits or even lessons about such things as the History of Florida or the Rainforest.

Children develop poise in performing on stage and by the time they are in high school are comfortable appearing in front of a crowd of 500 people.

Students write skits that range from “Fractured Fairy Tales” to political events. The creative theater that is developed over four weeks time is interesting to watch. A student may write a skit but give it to other students to perform. Students may decide that a different student could do a part better and so they switch roles.

The excitement and camaraderie that takes place as older students help younger students learn their lines, coach their acting and learn about performing is what makes FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE such a special time.

Although only four weeks is given to the creation of this yearly production, while regular classes and learning continues, students and staff manage to come up with an innovative and fresh program every year.

Students always look forward to performing in FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE.
