Montessori Programs
Students in preschool through grade six use the incredible Montessori materials in their learning. In a warm and caring environment WHS encourages a high quality of work, thought, mastery of content and skill. Students are able to progress at their optimal pace. WHS is dedicated to teaching children the learning skills necessary for success in life including a love of work, the ability to concentrate and self-discipline.
Primary Curriculum and Program
Primary consists of Kindergarten and grade one together in one classroom. The Montessori belief is to have several grade levels in one classroom to give each child a greater range for working. Primary students are evaluated at the beginning of the year to determine their base level of mastery. Each student goes on from that point. If a child is already reading there is no point in having her spend her time in lessons about the alphabet. Primary students focus on reading, writing and math. They have weekly spelling words, handwriting practice, story writing, art, music, Spanish, science and geography lessons.
