WHS includes several academic events into the curriculum to give the students experience in public speaking, knowledge of different cultures and areas of study. The Special Academic Events include:

Geography and Vocabulary Bees

National Geographic Geography Bee

Since 1989 WHS students have participated in the Geography Bee. Students from grades four through eight answer world geography questions in an oral format.

Readers Digest National Word Power Challenge

Students in grades four through eight compete in a vocabulary challenge.
