With the number of first through third graders exceeding one classroom, a second Lower elementary classroom has been created. There now are two lower elementary 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade classrooms.
All summer Mrs. Talbert has been preparing new materials for these classrooms. The students have many new Montessori materials to learn and enjoy. The students are already busy learning how to use so many new activities to enhance their learning. It is exciting to see how engaged the students are with the new materials.
The Primary playground has been revamped with two new cedar shade structures, a new wooden swing set, log balance beam, and campfire stools. The children are enjoying imaginative play scenarios with the natural materials on their playground. Loads of dirt were brought in for the main playground to cover the roots of the trees.
Older students in the summer moved many wheelbarrow loads of dirt to other spots that needed roots covered. Many new plants were added to all the gardens. The big garden behind the office building has a butterfly garden with lots of different attractor and host plants as well as an herb garden in big pots. Many of the other plants that we lost due to the exceptionally cold winter have been replaced with other more hardy ones.
